The Philadelphia Eagles made a lot of buzz just a few weeks before the 2026 NFL Draft after making a bold trade for wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks.

While draft picks were involved in the trade, the Eagles also gave Wicks a contract extension as part of the deal. He received a one-year, $12.5 million contract extension that will keep him in Philly through the 2027 season.

The Athletic's Zach Berman shared some more details on Wicks' new contract extension via Over the Cap. $9 million is guaranteed on the deal, with four void years on it as well. The cap hit will be $2.316 million this season and $4.093 million next season.

What Dontayvion Wicks' deal says about how Eagles view him?

First off, in typical Eagles general manager Howie Roseman style, the good old void years are back, as the four years added on there are going to help the franchise's financial situation. To have only about $6 million affect the cap over the next two years is masterclass work by Roseman.

Second, giving him $12.5 million on the extension is obviously very telling about how they feel about Wicks. The Eagles are looking at him to hopefully be the WR2 on the team with DeVonta Smith being the number one guy and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown as WR3.

In his three seasons in the NFL, Wicks hasn't had more than 600 yards in a year, but he has been a reliable target who just got lost in the Packers' offense. Now in Philly with the kind of money he is getting, that's not going to be the cause. It's clear that, with his experience in the new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's system, he is about to play a massive role.
