The Philadelphia Eagles actually pulled off a trade for a wide receiver that is most likely going to replace A.J. Brown if a trade happens.

Philly stunned the NFL going into the weekend as they traded a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers and acquired wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks. The Eagles will also sign Wicks to a one-year, $12.5 million contract extension.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter added more details to the trade afterward, sharing the specifics of the compensation. Schefter said Philly is trading the 2026 fifth-round pick they received from the Atlanta Falcons as part of the Sydney Brown trade and their second 2027 sixth-round pick.

Eagles looking good after the Dontayvion Wicks trade

This trade continues to look better for the Eagles as they made a great deal in the process. They get a really good WR3 in Wicks for a cheap cost on their draft picks. Philly traded a pick they only had for a little bit while moving a meaningless sixth-round pick.

What also makes this move great is that they are bringing in a wide receiver who knows the scheme of the new Eagles offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion. This should make the transition a lot easier for the offense as they learn the scheme, and they will be able to lean more on Wicks to help them out.

Another added benefit is that Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts gets more help at wide receiver. Putting Wicks and Marquise "Hollywood" Brown together, this team is going to be good with a combination of possession receiver and speed. It will also help open things up for DeVonta Smith, who might end up being the number one receiver in the offense, depending on A.J. Brown's roster status.

Overall, this is a great trade, and it's another example of how Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.
