Philadelphia Eagles fans thought they had more time for the team to interview candidates for the offensive coordinator job. Apparently they made their decision.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported the Eagles have hired Green Bay Packers quarterback coach Sean Mannion to be their new offensive coordinator. Mannion just completed his second season as an NFL coach, starting as an offensive assistant for Green Bay in 2024 before being promoted to quarterback coach this past season.

Many saw Mannion as a dark horse candidate who picked up a lot of steam over the last week as he quickly went through two rounds of interviews before landing the job. Mannion was a long-time backup quarterback in the NFL for multiple teams before his coaching career.

Eagles hire Sean Mannion as the offensive coordinator

This is a wild decision by Nick Sirianni and the Eagles to go from Kevin Patullo, who didn't have offensive coordinator or play-calling experience before 2025, to someone with even less coaching experience in Mannion. Eagles fans will have a lot of questions about the setup.

The most likely scenario for the Eagles is that Sirianni will be the play caller for the offense in 2025. He did it back in 2021 in his first season before offensive coordinator Shane Steichen took over the play-calling duties. That led to Steichen landing a head coach job with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023.

Mannion most likely won't have that kind of pressure in Year 1 as he could learn the ropes of the job and see how Sirainni does it. There's a chance he could pick it up eventually after that.
