Hall of Fame QB begs Eagles to re-think the inevitable A.J. Brown trade

At this stage in the offseason, there is very little reason for the Philadelphia Eagles not to trade wide receiver A.J. Brown. For a long time now -- a very long time -- the writing has been on the wall.

When June 1 passes, expect the Eagles to get a deal done within just a couple of days with the New England Patriots. After that date, it makes the most sense financially, and the Eagles can officially move on.

Still, there is a little bit of time for things to change. Whether it's another team entering the trade discussion or the Eagles somehow choosing to stand pat. The latter is precisely what Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon is calling on Philly to do. In an interview with Kay Adams, Moon made his stance crystal clear on the issue at hand:

"I wouldn't get rid of a guy like him ... this guy is a talent and if you find a way to get him the football, he's always shown that he's going to deliver."

On one hand, Moon has a point. It isn't a hard point to make, though. For the majority of his career, Brown has been a top-10 talent at his position. And, at just 28 years old, he has plenty left in front of him. But, as Moon would later hint at, things have gotten pretty bad in Philadelphia between Brown and the team.

An A.J. Brown trade is the last resort, but the Philadelphia Eagles have to do it

Moon seemed pretty firm in his stance that the Eagles should rethink this whole thing, suggesting they get together, sit down, and talk this out. But then he concluded that if the Eagles really have no other choice, the organization has no choice.

"It's got to be pretty bad when you look at a guy that's built like he is and has been as productive as he's been ... when I see a talent like that I'm going to try and make every way possible work," he said.

Moon is right. It has gotten that bad. As if the last couple of seasons of Brown's unhappiness hasn't been clear enough, just look at what happened over this past weekend. Brown got married and there were reportedly "not many Eagles teammates" in attendance.

What does that say about Brown and his presence in the locker room, how he's viewed and to what extent he is liked or loved?

Howie Roseman is good at his job. He isn't naive. Moon's reasoning makes sense, but there should be no questions at this point about whether or not the Eagles have done everything in their power to make this work. They have.

It didn't matter the play caller. It didn't matter the opponent. It didn't matter the game situation.

What matters is the fact that, no matter what way you choose to spin it, Brown's time in Philadelphia has run its course. It's time to part ways.
