The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of work to do at some key positions during the 2026 NFL Draft and the rest of the offseason, but one position should get more attention than the others.

After the loss of Reed Blankenship in free agency, who signed with the Houston Texans, the Eagles are left with Andrew Mukuba as the only starter in the secondary who made more than 10 starts last year. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spoke with the media as he shared what the plan is at the safety position going into the draft.

“We’ll add players at that position," Roseman said via WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks.

This offseason, the Eagles re-signed Marcus Epps to bring him back, and they also signed J.T. Gray. Epps started the last month of the season in place of Mukuba when he broke his ankle. Gray is more of a special teams player.

Philly had Sydney Brown before they decided to trade him to the Atlanta Falcons and swapped fourth and sixth-round picks with them. That move certainly put them in an interesting situation with the depth at the safety position.

For the moment, it appears as though Mukuba and Epps will be starting at safety. There has been a lot of chatter about cornerback Michael Carter II moving to safety from the nickel spot to compete with Epps for the job.

There have been mock drafts that have seen the Eagles take Toledo safety Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in the first round. Most of those mock drafts have them waiting until Day 2 or 3, though, to find a safety.

Most likely, the Eagles could wait until after the draft to find a veteran to add to the safety position. Regardless, Philly has to do something to replace Blankenship with the safety position becoming the most glaring need on the roster entering the 2026 season.
