Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman certainly got everyone's attention with his latest trade that he made.
The Eagles traded for Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks as Philly sent over two Day 3 draft picks. Roseman was asked about his decision to make the trade for Wicks and what he brings to the team.
"Tay’s a player that we’ve followed," Roseman said via NBC Sports Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro. "Obviously, we’ve played Green Bay a bunch of times. You see his skillset. He is a physical, explosive player at the top of routes. He can play inside or out. He’s a guy we had our eye on here. And bringing in some of these Green Bay guys, some of the hardest parts of our job is the cohab part, not understanding who the person is. And when you get a chance to bring in some of these new coaches and then talk about some of the players and the skillset and then know how they are in the building, it makes you even more confident when you make that acquisition. I think when you look at our receiver room over the last couple of years, obviously we lost Jahan, we probably have been fortunate about the depth that we haven’t really had to dive into. Just studying the league and how many teams can go pretty deep in their receiver room, that was one of the priorities going into this offseason, increasing the depth, the quality of talent in the receiver room throughout the room. That really fit for us. Really excited to get Tay here and think he’s an arrow up guy."
Howie Roseman talks about making the trade for Dontayvion Wicks
Wicks had a nice start to his NFL career after being selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Packers, as he had a career-high in receiving yards (591) and yards per reception (14.9 yards per catch). He would go on to have 415 yards and five touchdowns in 2024 and 332 yards and two touchdowns last year.
The Eagles wanted to add size and a possession receiver to the offense to help offset the potential A.J. Brown departure coming. It also helps that Wicks is familiar with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion's scheme from their time together in Green Bay over the last two years.
