Well, all those complaints about how quiet the offseason has been for the Philadelphia Eagles is certainly not the case anymore with their latest move.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Eagles have signed wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to a one-year, $6.5 million contract. Brown has played the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs after previously playing for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals.
Last season, Brown caught 49 passes for 587 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games. He has previously gone for over 1,000 yards in a season once in 2021.
Eagles sign Marquise Brown to a one-year deal
Philly has been looking for a wide receiver this offseason as they try to bring in someone to be the next WR2 or WR3 on the team to first replace Jahan Dotson, who signed with the Atlanta Falcons. More importantly, though, this could be the replacement for A.J. Brown.
Trade speculations have died down over the last week with A.J. Brown after being tied to the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. His name was recently removed from contention with the Denver Broncos after it was just reported that they were never interested in Brown.
Marquise Brown's arrival pretty much confirms what every Eagles fan has been working themselves up to expect: A.J. Brown is as good as gone. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when it will happen.
For the time being, the Eagles have held off on trading Brown and most likely will wait until after June 1. That's when the dead cap hit will be much less with Brown, and the team will save about $7 million against the cap.

This shouldn't be the end of the work at receiver as the Eagles most likely target one in the NFL Draft. All Eagles know, though, is after four years, it feels inevitable that Brown will be gone soon enough.
