Eagles' offseason grade (so far) isn't as bad as fans thought it would be

Not too bad at all.

Everyone in Philly feels pretty...underwhelmed by the Philadelphia Eagles' 2026 offseason.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been more focused on re-signing players and offering contract extensions, but has also made some nice signings, like cornerback Riq Woolen. CBS Sports writer Garrett Podell gave the Eagles a B- for their offseason so far.

"The losses are significant, but the Woolen addition on a one-year deal is a fantastic value. He's a physical marvel at the cornerback position, and Vic Fangio could get him playing at an even higher level with regular play time. He and Quinyon Mitchell at outside corner should be a lot of fun. Re-signing Goedert made plenty of sense for all parties involved. Yes, there's A.J. Brown trade rumors, but when hasn't that been the case of late? It's appearing more and more likely he'll be an Eagle once again in 2026 the further away we get from free agency."

Eagles score decent grade to start 2026 offseason

Losing players like Jaelan Phillips, Reed Blankenship, and Nakobe Dean have been major losses for the Eagles on defense, with none of them really getting replaced with outside help. Philly did sign edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie, but he doesn't match Phillips' skill level to be considered a permanent replacement.

Bringing back Goedert might have arguably been the best move of the offseason for the Eagles since they are more than likely to trade Brown away at some point. That trade most likely happens after June 1, but it does feel like it's going to happen eventually, and it will either be the New England Patriots or the Los Angeles Rams taking Brown off Philly's hands.

Most of the work the Eagles were going to do this offseason has already been done, so things could be slow for Philly moving forward. Philly will shift its attention to the NFL Draft, hoping to fill some of the big roster gaps.

This Eagles team is still very talented, but the lack of moves doesn't excite the fan base as it has in the past. Hopefully, the core group from last year will be good despite everyone being a year older.
