Anyone outside the Philadelphia Eagles organization would think quarterback Jalen Hurts is on the hot seat for 2026. That couldn't be further from the truth.
After the 2025 season, Hurts faced all kinds of criticism, including changing plays in the huddle and frustrating his teammates with his lack of aggression. When the Eagles decided not to restructure his contract or give him an extension, many saw it as a sign that Hurts was in trouble in 2026.
That narrative ran for months: this is a "make-or-break" year, and Hurts could be out of Philly by 2027. Eagles fans were smart enough to know that this isn't the case at all.
Howie Roseman goes to bat with Jalen Hurts on narrative that Eagles fans don't believe
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman appeared on SportsRadio 94 WIP, where he was asked about whether Hurts was on the hot seat in 2026. Roseman made sure to shut down the Hurts make-or-break narrative right away.
"No, I don't agree with that," Roseman said. "I think that the bottom line for us in the positions that we're in and really for all our fan base is winning football games. And all the guy does is win football games. And that includes our head coach as well. And I think that for me, the barometer is winning football games. In terms of what Jalen does, he's another guy with a tremendous track record. All he does is go out and play good football. Really excited to have him as our quarterback. Excited about this season and what we have going forward, and I know there are a lot of fan bases out there that would love the results that we've had with him as our starting quarterback."
Just to remind everyone of the kind of numbers Hurts had in 2025, he completed 64.8% of his passes for 3,224 yards and a career-high 25 touchdowns to six interceptions. He also ran for 421 yards and eight touchdowns. Hurts went 11-5 as the starter in the regular season, leading the Eagles to a second straight NFC East title and earning his third Pro Bowl selection.
Yes, he wasn't as aggressive as fans wanted, and he needed to run the ball more. But if people looked at his numbers and what he did, he protected the football well and still made enough of an impact to help the Eagles win games.
The reality is that Hurts should never be on the hot seat because he never was. He has won 69.5% of his starts, which not many quarterbacks can do in the NFL. Hurts is still an athletically gifted quarterback and a difference-maker for this team.
His resume speaks for itself. He's been to three Pro Bowls, appeared in two Super Bowls, won one Super Bowl, and was Super Bowl MVP.
Let's name off a list of quarterbacks in NFL history who have done that. It wouldn't be a long one.

NFL fans can pretend all they want, but Hurts isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and they'd better be ready for it. He's going to continue to help this Eagles team win games, and Philly is perfectly fine with that because of one reason: He's a proven winner.
