Things are starting to get a little tense in Philadelphia, with frustration and debate over the Eagles' open offensive coordinator role.
It's been highly discussed that several candidates have withdrawn from the job to either stay put or take other openings. Many Eagles fans are searching for their own answers to what is making this process so difficult.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport made some comments about the harsh reality of coaching in Philadelphia, with passionate Eagles fans and local sports media, making it a place not for everyone. SportsRadio 94 WIP host Joe Giglio was not accepting that as an excuse.
"I mean, come on, Rap Sheet, about the media and the fans as the reason the Eagles don't have an offensive coordinator. It's a joke. I mean, the reason the Eagles don't have a coordinator yet is and you could pick the one you like the best, but I'll give you some reasons. The quarterback is in decline, the head coach might be on the hot seat and guys don't want to come here to have to move their family in a year. Lane Johnson, who has been the most important offensive lineman on the team for so many years could be headed towards retirement and maybe he'll never be the same physically. A.J. Brown will likely be traded according to most people, so like maybe the roster talent-wise isn't what we want it to be. It's about the team. It's about the organization for whatever reason, they haven't been able to land anyone yet. That's the truth here."
Is Ian Rapoport or Joe Giglio correct on this debate?
The reality is that there is some truth to Rapoport's claims about the fans and media. As passionate a fan base as Eagles fans are, there are a few bad apples who take it too far and do things like egg Kevin Patullo's house, making it personal.
Sports media in Philadelphia can be very harsh because of the city's passion for its team. Not all coaches want to deal with that, and yes, there are markets where the noise is not as loud as it is in Philly.
At the same time, while Giglio might not be 100% on his point, there is something within the franchise that is making the job less attractive to candidates. It might be more to the point to ask whether Nick Sirianni is telling candidates they can have full control of the offense.
Sure, there are concerns about the offensive line and Brown potentially not being on the roster, but Hurts is not regressing as badly as Giglio said he is. The talent on the roster can obviously get better because it wasn't enough to win the Super Bowl, but they are not far off.

The coaching search is making many people outside the Eagles organization nervous, as it is not going the way some thought it would. Hopefully, the Eagles can put all this exhausting talk to rest and find the right man for the job.
