With the 2025 season concluded, NFL.com writer Nick Shook broke down their rankings for all 63 quarterbacks who started a game this season, including Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts.
This season, Shook ranked Hurts as the 19th-best quarterback this past season, 10 spots lower than his 2024 ranking coming off his Super Bowl victory.
"Jalen Hurts was at his best when the Eagles went up-tempo, an admission that made me wonder whether removing the thought process from playing quarterback might be best for him. The scheme certainly didn't help him, and offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was promptly fired after the Eagles' season ended in a first-round postseason exit. But I truly believe Hurts would benefit from shedding his focus on making the perfect play, an outcome that could be expedited by new OC Sean Mannion."
Jalen Hurts fell to number 19 in QB rankings
Hurts appeared in 17 games (postseason included), throwing for 3,392 passing yards, 26 passing touchdowns, six interceptions, along with 435 rushing yards with eight rushing touchdowns and eight fumbles. While Hurts, on paper, put together a "solid" season from both a win-loss perspective and a statistical perspective, his overall output was consistently a topic of conversation throughout the 2025 season. While many have debated why Hurts regressed this season, the Eagles felt a change was needed and fired offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.
Per Shook, he believes Hurts' strengths were when the Eagles ran an up-tempo offense, allowing the quarterback to just "play" rather than diagnose. However, while Hurts had his successes this season, it was clear he never looked truly comfortable in 2025, leading to a five-turnover performance in a loss to the Chargers and to two games in which, despite the Eagles winning, he failed to complete a pass in the second half.
The Eagles have hired Sean Mannion to replace Patullo as their offensive coordinator. As a former NFL quarterback, he can bring perspective to the position and help maximize the talent of the franchise quarterback, who is entering his seventh year.
