The Philadelphia Eagles have been chipping away as they prepare for the 2026 season. Training camp turned up a notch as the Eagles and Patriots kicked off their first joint practice on Wednesday.

Before practice began, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio revealed that defensive end Jonathan Greenard could miss the start of the season due to a pectoral injury. That's less than ideal, but defensive end Jalyx Hunt's stellar summer continues.

Hunt was a massive winner from this joint practice, and it should help ease the possible loss of Greenard at the beginning of the season.

Jonathan Greenard news isn't as painful for Eagles thanks to Jalyx Hunt

During some 1-on-1s, Hunt easily beat Will Campbell with a speed rush. Shortly after, Hunt beat Campbell again, and it would have resulted in a sack of Drake Maye.

His performance in these practices aligns with how productive he's been this summer, and that should really excite the fanbase. Hunt has consistently wreaked havoc and been in the backfield. Beating up on your own teammates is one thing, but doing it against an opposing team is noteworthy.

Ryan Fowler of NBC Sports Philadelphia then reported that after the practice, a source with the Patriots texted him, saying "58 [Jalyx Hunt] is a problem.”

This is just another example that proves how impactful Hunt was out on the field. Considering that Greenard's status for the start of the season is in doubt, having Hunt in the fold will go a long way.

Hunt is coming off a 2025 season where he played in 62 percent of the defensive snaps. In 17 games (nine starts), he finished with 52 total tackles, nine TFLs, and 6.5 sacks. Hunt also compiled 55 total pressures and 31 hurries.

He was effective last season, and it looks like he's going to hit another gear in 2026. The Eagles are at their best when they have quality pass rushers in the fold. Hunt seems to be trending up, and Philadelphia needs that.

Time will tell how serious things will be for Greenard. Philadelphia traded two third-round picks to Minnesota for him, then gave him a four-year, $100 million extension. They clearly have high hopes for him, yet those are stalled for now.

That's opening the door for more reps during camp, and Hunt is taking full advantage. His arrow is pointing up, and his dominance against the Patriots is just the latest instance. The season is a little over three weeks away, and Hunt continues to stack good days.
