The Philadelphia Eagles appear to still have senior personnel director Joe Douglas on the payroll after the latest news in the hiring space in the NFL.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Atlanta Falcons have hired Chicago Bears assistant general manager Ian Cunningham to be the new general manager of the team. Douglas had interviewed for the same position before Cunningham was hired.
Eagles fans might be familiar with Cunningham, as he worked in Philly from 2017 through 2021. He worked several positions with the Eagles, including director of college scouting, assistant director of player personnel, and director of player personnel.
Joe Douglas is sticking around in Philly after losing out on Falcons GM job
It'll be good to have Douglas stay in Philadelphia, as he has done great work with the Eagles for a long time. He was with the Eagles from 2016 through 2019 as vice president of player personnel before becoming general manager of the New York Jets.
After failing with the Jets, Douglas returned to Philadelphia last year. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman found a spot for him as the senior personnel director. Douglas has always had a good eye for young talent coming out of college and has been more of a scout for the Eagles.
This might become an annual thing, with Douglas in the conversation for general manager roles, since he has experience in the role. Unfortunately, the rough years with the Jets and not being able to turn them around might end up hindering him from ever landing another general manager job.

That doesn't mean Douglas isn't good for the front office; he helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2017, and he can continue to help Philly find ways to win games.
