There were a lot of changes for the Philadelphia Eagles, but none was bigger than the one that was made to the offensive line coaching staff.
Former Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland left the team after 13 years and was replaced by former Minnesota Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper. Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata talked about his excitement for working with Kuper but made sure not to compare him to Stoutland.
“I’m excited for this challenge, and Kup’s been amazing so far," Mailata said via SportsRadio WIP 94. "We’re excited to have him. When it comes to players and coaches, I don’t draw comparisons.”
Jordan Mailata is not going to compare Jeff Stoutland and Chris Kuper together
It's fair for Mailata to feel that way and make sure Stoutland and Kuper are not compared to each other. That's something no one should be, but unfortunately for Kuper, he's going to have to face it.
What a tough follow-up for Kuper, as he was always going to have a tough time trying to do that after taking over for one of the best positional assistant coaches in NFL history. Stoutland is easily a Hall of Fame coach, as he has helped the Eagles reach three Super Bowls and win two of them over the last 13 years with the franchise.
Now Kuper has a lot of work to do as the offensive line last year struggled with age and injuries finally catching up to the group. The most important thing for Kuper is how he develops the young players the Eagles selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, like Miami tackle Markel Bell in the third round and Georgia guard Micah Morris in the sixth round.

Kuper already has top talent in Mailata, Lane Johnson, Landon Dickerson, and Cam Jurgens, so that's not going to be the problem. If he can't develop the future of the offensive line, Eagles fans will turn on the new coach very quickly.
