Football is an emotional game for players, fans, and media members (even if the media isn't allowed top show any). Add another dash for rivalry games and another portion when that rivalry involves the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.
Philly's first offensive drive of the third quarter ran the gamut of emotions on one particular play. Kenny Pickett scrambled out of the pocket to find A.J. Brown for a beautiful toe-tap in the back of the end zone. Elation...
But, wait...
Jordan Mailata was penalized for holding on that one. That means the touchdown doesn't count.
Major letdown...
Oh, and it gets worse. Kenny Pickett took a shot on the play from Micah Parsons and left the field with an injury.
Uncertainty...
Tanner McKee takes over at quarterback for Kenny Pickett after Kenny Pickett left with an injury.
After exiting the game, Pickett never entered the medical tent, but he'd leave the playing field to enter the locker room. A rib injury is the presumption. Here are a couple of shots.
The duty of leading the offense will now seemingly rest in the capable hands of third-stringer Tanner McKee. How did that go? He threw a TD pass on the first drive of his NFL career. This came after an incompletion was the ruling on what almost turned out being one of the sickest TD catches of A.J. Brown's Eagles career.
Here's part one:
Here's part two:
Tanner McKee now has his first career TD pass to tell the grandchildren about. A.J. Brown eclipses 4,000 receiving yards in an Eagles jersey. Saquon Barkley becomes the ninth NFL player to join the 2,000-yard club.
Here's something heartwarming... A.J. tossed the ball representing Tanner McKee's personal achievement to a fan. Realizing his mistake almost immediately, he worked out a deal. He'd ask for the ball back and offer an autographed jersey instead.
Credit 11 for keeping his promise.
Wow! How about that for entertainment. It sounds like a great moment all around for everyone. Tanner would toss a second TD pass, one to DeVonta Smith and finish his workday by completing three of four pass attempts and stacking 54 yards through the air.
