Most mock drafts had the Philadelphia Eagles taking Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, but things might have changed.
The Eagles are desperate for a tight end with Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Kylen Granson all free agents. Cameron Latu is the only active tight end on Philly's roster entering the offseason, so the expectation was that Sadiq would fall to them, and he would be the new starter. That's no longer happening.
Sadiq had an incredible showing at the NFL Combine as he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash, beating the rest of the tight ends by 0.11 seconds. He also had the fastest 10-yard split at 1.54 seconds, was second in the vertical jump with 43.50", and second in the Broad Jump with 11'1'.
Eagles might have to shift gears at tight end in 2026
Last season, Sadiq had a down season with his stats as he caught 51 passes for 560 yards and eight touchdowns, which is odd since those were career-highs, but people expected more. The combine did more than end those concerns as Sadiq might have locked himself into the top 20 of the NFL Draft.
It does leave the Eagles in an interesting situation with now it seems like tight end is off the table in the first round. Sadiq was the only projected tight end to go in the first round, so Philly will have to look elsewhere for that solution.
Watch for the Eagles to look for a veteran tight end like Isaiah Likely, David Njoku, John FitzPatrick, or even re-signing Goedert as potential options. They will most likely use the second or third round to find their other tight end.
As for their first round pick, with the edge rusher class so deep, this is the year for the Eagles to look there and select one. Even if they end up re-signing Jaelan Phillips, they could always use more edge rushers to help develop and grow within the team.

While it was a ton of fun to watch Sadiq at the combine, every Eagles fan thought the same thing when he ran that 40 time: there's no way he's going to land at 23.
