Dallas Goedert isn't going to love reading who his Eagles replacement could be

Thanks Dallas. I think we got our guy.

One of the most fascinating positions to watch for with the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason is at tight end.

Cameron Latu is the only tight end who will be on the roster entering free agency, with Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and Kylen Granson all free agents. That leaves the Eagles with some gaps to fill at the position, with one clear option in the draft with Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq being a name in mock drafts, but there's also an option in free agency.

CBS Sports writer Jared Dubin named the Eagles as one of the potential landing spots for Cleveland Browns free agent tight end David Njoku. Dubin sees Njoku as a perfect replacement for Goedert.

"Not only is Goedert set to hit free agency, but so are Grant Calcaterra and Kylen Granson. So the only tight end left on the roster is Cameron Latu. Whether they want to address the position in the draft or not, they could have a need here if Goedert decides to pursue opportunities elsewhere. The Eagles need to figure out a way to open up the middle of the field for their offense, and Njoku could help them do that."

Njoku made it clear that he will test the free-agent market after spending nine years with the Browns. He has caught 384 passes for 4,062 yards and 34 touchdowns in 116 career games. The former Browns tight end was a Pro Bowler in 2023 for the team.

Philly would be smart to at least consider Njoku, as he would be a better option financially for the team. He's projected to cost about $5.1 million per year, while Goedert is going to be closer to $10 million per year after catching a franchise-record 11 touchdowns in 2025.

The Eagles knew that Goedert was going to be an option in free agent they had to consider less than Jaelan Phillips and Reed Blankenship, but Njoku would make for a really good option when they target tight ends in free agency.
