After a terrible performance from Landon Dickerson, the Philadelphia Eagles are placing him on IR.
The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane first reported the surprising news, as he is dealing with a knee injury. Dickerson struggled in the Eagles' Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders. He allowed four pressures and one quarterback hit, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 40.3 and ranking 136th.
Dickerson battled through injuries last year, which resulted in him almost retiring in the offseason. He decided to continue playing and downplayed the retirement rumors at training camp.
This now opens the door for two players on the Eagles to battle it out for the starting left guard. The Eagles will have to pick between Drew Kendall or Willie Lampkin.
Eagles have an impossible choice to replace Landon Dickerson after IR trip
Dickerson is a three-time Pro Bowler, as he made it there from 2022 through 2024. The Eagles now have to somehow figure out how to replace him in the starting lineup.
Kendall and Lampkin are both great choices for the Eagles, as they had stellar preseasons with the Birds. The problem is that they did it against backups mostly, so it may not truly show what they can do against the top competition.
Lampkin was a star in training camp, as an undersized lineman, but showing that he can handle the bigger defenders. He's under 6-foot, but he has been stellar throughout the last month, not allowing a single sack during the preseason.
The Eagles have been developing Kendall for a bit now and 2026 seemed to finally show that he has broken out. He played well in the preseason, also not allowing a sack during the preseason, making the choice that much tougher.
There is a strong chance that since Kendall has been on the team longer that he would get the opportunity to start first. Lampkin is a fan favorite, though, so the noise for him to start is going to be loud.
Regardless, the job of offensive line coach Chris Kuper is truly under the spotlight over the next few weeks. Kuper had a great showing in training camp and preseason with the linemen, but took some heat for their pass protection in Week 1. Now he has a chance to redeem himself and right the wrongs of the Commanders game.

This is a brand new storyline for the Eagles that they were not expecting to deal with, but Kendall and Lampkin are going to have a fun battle in practice. Whoever wins, though, is going to have the most pressure ahead of them in Week 2.
