Philadelphia Eagles fans have begged for a change on offense after the disaster of Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator in 2025, and they got their wish with new OC Sean Mannion taking over.

There's been a lot of praise for Mannion and the work he has done in just two years, while he's also been talked about for his intelligence in using Sean McVay's and Kyle Shanahan's offensive schemes. Eagles future Hall of Fame right tackle Lane Johnson appeared on the Fitz & Whit show, where he talked about his thoughts on playing within Mannion's new offense.

"Yeah, I'm excited about this new system. I think it has some Shanahan Implements in it, and I think it will be maybe easier on the edge for Jordan and I, so maybe not as much isolation. You know, when you run some wide zone like the 49ers, and if a guy comes under you or you're not worried about it, you just keep going. I can get used to that."

This was an Eagles offense that struggled mightily in every offensive category, finishing in the bottom 15 in total offense, passing, rushing, and scoring. A change was desperately needed, as Philly appears to be moving away from a more run-first scheme toward a wide-open offense.

At the same time, Johnson is talking about the different types of runs that will be huge to have. Patullo was notorious for running the ball right up the middle on first and second down in the second half when the team had the lead, making the offense way too predictable.

Mannion will at least give the offensive line a break from the physical ground-and-pound of runs up the middle and showcase more of what Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is so good at. Getting Barkley on the outside to show off his deceptive speed is what helped him rush for over 2,000 yards in 2024, so that's the route that Mannion has to take with this running game as well.

Johnson and his offensive line should be excited as this scheme will be more friendly to them and put more on the skill players to show what they've got. A fresh look at offense could be the key to getting the Eagles back in the Super Bowl conversation.
