Remember earlier in the offseason, there was a narrative going around that coaches did not want to work for the Philadelphia Eagles?

Many coaches had dropped off the list of candidates for the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator search because speculation was that they were either worried about job security, didn't want to deal with the A.J. Brown situation, or didn't want to coach quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles ended up going with Sean Mannion as the offensive coordinator, but that didn't stop them from bringing in another OC candidate, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, to be their new pass game coordinator.

Well, apparently, another team wanted Grizzard on their staff as well. Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen told the media at the league owners' meeting that he tried to sign Grizzard to his team, but instead chose the Eagles over the Jaguars.

Turns out that one coach wanted the Eagles over other choices

It's funny how the narrative was that it's hard to coach for the Eagles, but if it was, why would Grizzard take them over someone he is familiar with and has already worked with in the past? Grizzard spent the 2025 season as the OC for the Buccaneers, replacing Coen, who had just finished his first year as head coach of the Jaguars. Coen and Grizzard were both on staff with the Buccaneers.

The reality is, Grizzard probably could have gotten a better job in the process with Coen than just being a pass game coordinator. So the question is, why come to Philly over Jacksonville?

Well, the offense has a lot of untapped potential to be great with Hurts, Brown, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert, Lane Johnson, Jordan Mailata, and more. There's also a chance that Grizzard might have more influence in the offense since he has been an offensive coordinator and can help Mannion out more than he could in Jacksonville with Coen.

Maybe working in Philly isn't as bad as some might have thought?
