After the stunning hire of offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, the Philadelphia Eagles did not rest on building out the new offensive coaching staff.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles are also going to hire former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard as their pass game coordinator. Grizzard went through two rounds of interviews for the offensive coordinator role before Mannion got the job.

Last year with the Buccaneers, Grizzard called the plays in his first year after taking over for Liam Coen, who went on to become the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach. Grizzard's unit struggled, ranking 21st in yards and 18th in points.

Eagles add experience to coaching staff with Josh Grizzard

This is one hire that Eagles fans can agree is a good one. Despite Grizzard's struggles as a coordinator, he brings more experience to the staff and can serve as a helpful hand to Mannion.

Looking at the passing game under Grizzard in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers ranked 20th in yards and 11th in touchdowns. They were also 13th in interceptions.

A move like this can only benefit Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is seeking some stability with his coaching staff. This could also be a huge moment for Hurts as multiple great offensive minds come together in one place.

One of the biggest complaints about the passing game in Philly last year was that it was predictable. Most of the calls Kevin Patullo would make as former Eagles offensive coordinator are hitch routes, with some out routes, slants, and screens thrown in.

Grizzard worked with Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield, who was a more aggressive passer, which could be put to good use with the Eagles' offense. Some more passes down the field might help open up the offense, as it hasn't before.

So far, the Eagles are taking big chances with the offensive coaching staff, but they have some smart, creative guys coming into the building that can help the unit out when they truly need it the most.
