Despite Sean Mannion being a stunning hire for the Philadelphia Eagles as their new offensive coordinator, the signs are there that he will be great.

Looking at his background, Mannion might have just two years of coaching experience, but he has received praise from his organization and reporters who cover him for the potential he shows as an NFL coach. It helps that he has worked with some of the top offensive minds in football, including Sean McVay and Matt LaFleur.

One stat that The Score editor Brenden Deeg shared shows that Mannion is a better option for the offensive coordinator than former OC Kevin Patullo. Deeg shared that the Eagles were first in the NFL in hitch routes run, with 673, while the Packers were 31st in that category, with 354.

Sean Mannion appears to be an upgrade from Kevin Patullo

What was the one thing Eagles fans were complaining about Patullo's play calling all season? He ran so many hitch routes that many former NFL players were calling him out for being so predictable and showing the sign so easily that the route was coming based on the alignment of receivers like A.J. Brown.

Patullo never really showed that creativity in the NFL outside of the work he did with the Dallas Goedert pitches from the Tush Push formation. Besides that, the Eagles were bland and stale offensively, which led to the team being ranked in the bottom 15 in every offensive category in 2025.

Mannion brings a fresh perspective to the offense that will force the Eagles to be more vertical down the field and run more drag routes that proved to be Brown's best route in 2025, despite it being run so few times. After seeing LaFleur's offense, the Eagles might be able to look more wide-open in the passing game with Mannion coming in and adding creativity.

Everyone knows this is a risk, but it literally can't be any worse than what Patullo did for this offense last season. Right?
