The pending departure of A.J. Brown has Philadelphia Eagles fans nervous, even though the team found his replacement in rookie first-round pick Makai Lemon.
Eagles fans are wondering whether Lemon will end up being the real deal and truly be the receiver this franchise needs. While speaking to the media for the first time as the offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion responded to a question about Lemon, praising the rookie for impressing him early on.
"Makai's been a lot of fun to work with," Mannion said via SleeperNFL. "He's a tremendous young talent. He practices really hard, studies hard, takes a lot of pride in the little details. That's the sign of a true pro."
Makai Lemon has been impressing his coach early on in Philly
Everyone knows the capabilities that the 2025 Fred Biletnikoff award winner brings to the table in Philadelphia. Lemon won't be the fastest or tallest receiver on the field, but he does everything so well that he doesn't play to his height. He's a strong route runner with reliable hands who can make all the plays needed.
Going into the 2026 season, Lemon is expected to play in the slot for Mannion while getting the chance to work with other receivers like new WR1 DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, and Elijah Moore. While it is a completely new wide receiver room, the talent level is insane, to the point that it might be the best the team has had since Nick Sirianni became head coach.
How good that wide receiver room, though, is going to heavily depend on how Lemon develops as a receiver in Year 1. Early projections have him going over 800 yards and five touchdowns in his rookie season, which would be considered a success if it happens.

Lemon has massive shoes to fill with A.J. Brown about to leave the franchise, but at least he's got the total confidence from his offensive coordinator.
