After over two weeks of searching for the right offensive coordinator for the job, the Philadelphia Eagles have made their decision with Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion.

It's a surprising pick since Mannion only has two years of experience as a coach, but he has continued to receive praise for the work that he has done in that short time. Recently, his former boss, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, spoke about Mannion and his potential as an NFL coach.

“He’s got a bright future in this profession,” LaFleur recently said via A to Z Sports' Wendell Ferreira. “He attacks it the same way I knew he would when he was a player. Just extreme ownership of everything, puts in the time and goes above and beyond the call of duty, which is exactly what you want from your assistant coaches.”

New Eagles OC Sean Mannion received high praise from Matt LaFleur

This has been the sentiment from everyone who has been around Mannion: despite being so new to coaching, he has a lot of potential. Many believe he could eventually be a head coach in the NFL.

Just this past week, Mannion was the offensive coordinator of the West team in the East-West Shrine Bowl and got a lot of praise for how he was working with the quarterbacks and the command he had in the offense. It was the first taste of what Eagles fans can expect out of their new offensive coordinator.

Mannion started as an offensive assistant under LaFleur in 2024 before becoming the quarterbacks coach this past season. Packers quarterback Jordan Love is actually coming off the best season of his NFL career under Mannion as the QB coach, as he completed 66.3% of his passes (second best of his career) with 23 touchdowns to six interceptions, which is the best touchdown to interception ratio of his career, and the first full season Love threw under 10 interceptions in a season.

What makes Mannion intriguing is that he has worked with some of the top offensive minds in football as a backup quarterback and as a coach. He has worked under LaFleur and was coached by some of the best, including Sean McVay, which should pique the interest of all Eagles fans.

This might be a massive risk for the Eagles to put all their marbles on a 33-year-old coach who has never been an offensive coordinator, but the praise suggests it is worth giving him a chance as he calls the plays for the first time in his young career.
