The buzz is wearing off. It took a little longer than normal. Sue us. We love this team. Plus, there's the other thing. The 24-hour rule applies to Philadelphia Eagles players and coaches. Fans and the media technically can talk about (or celebrate) the most recent game for as long as we wish.
That's the life of NFL players. Win one big game. Get ready for another. We probably should too. Two days of celebration is enough. The Kansas City Chiefs await Philly in one final postseason game to crown a champion.
What a night! What a game! What a win! Here are five individual performances, we will never forget... Like, ever...
Okay, one more thing about the NFC Championship Game, and we promise we'll move on. How about that performance? What a night! What a game! Now, that's what we've been waiting to see.
If Philly is to end this reign of terror by the Chiefs, we'll need more of what we saw from Jalen Hurts. We'll need all hands on deck and the continuing stellar efforts of some unsung guys who gave it everything they had in the rubber match vs. the Washington Commanders.
Here are six that come to mind. We've always loved them, but what they did in the NFC Championship Game catapulted them to another level of respectability.
Landon Dickerson
There are several words we use to describe Landon Dickerson. One keeps coming to mind... Warrior...
No, that isn't very original. Honestly, the word gets tossed around so often that it loses its emphasis. Landon is a warrior though. He fought through the pain of injury until his body wouldn't let him do so any further. Then, he was replaced by a teammate who did the same thing.
Cam Jurgens
You can take most of what we said about Landon Dickerson, replace his name with Cam Jurgens, and everything still applies. That's especially true of the warrior part. Battling through a back injury, he didn't start the NFC Championship Game but was active just in case his team needed him.
Well, they did need him. Landon Dickerson had to exit the game, and Cam stepped on the field. He played like nothing was bothering him, and helped lift his team to a Super Bowl appearance,
What a couple of stories! What a couple of moments! And, here's the best part. Cam and Landon have two weeks to heal. Hopefully, they are both ready to go when we reach Super Bowl LIX.
Kellen Moore
Kellen Moore called one heck of a game in the NFC Championship Game. He and Nick Sirianni finally let Jalen Hurts "out of his strait jacket", whatever that means. Maybe that means rather than treat him as a game manager in a run-heavy offense, they let him cook. Boy did he ever!
If Kellen Moore and the Eagles' offense have one more performance like that in them, Philly's chances of winning the Super Bowl will increase dramatically.
Zack Baun
How good does it feel to say this? The Eagles are great at linebacker. You have no idea how long we have waited to make that statement. Zack Baun is the leader of that group. He again lived up to his All-Pro status in the NFC Championship Game.
He notched 12 tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Sure, he's no longer unsung. We just want to keep telling you about how awesome his signing was.
Nolan Smith & Oren Burks
Did we mention we're in love with these Philly linebackers? Okay, Nolan Smith is basically an edge rusher, but he's one sack away from tying Brandon Graham's postseason record (5.5). Oren Burks was someone we thought might be the weak link on Philly's defense once forced into action after Nakobe Dean's injury.
He's been nothing of the sort. He's been awesome.
Burks tallied a forced fumble, a sack, and nine tackles during the Eagles' win over the Commanders in the NFC Championship Game. He has racked up 20 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup during the postseason.
This after collecting 17 tackles in the regular-season finale.
Verdict: Position for position, the Philadelphia Eagles are more talented than the Chiefs are at every position. Sure Patrick Mahomes is the best of his time, but we've seen Jalen Hurts go toe-to-toe on the big stage.
If he does so again and gets help from his supporting cast (and a few of the unsung heroes), Kansas City's reign of terror will end with green and silver confetti falling.
