The Philadelphia Eagles fan base is learning more about the schedule leaks coming throughout the day, as the team's first game has now been revealed.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Eagles will play the Washington Commanders in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season in Lincoln Financial Field. This is much earlier than Philly's last meeting with Washington, as the two didn't face off until Weeks 16 and 18 last year.
The Eagles and Commanders split the series last year, with Philly winning the first game and Washington taking the second, which came against the Eagles' backups after they were benched to rest for the playoffs. It has already been revealed that the Eagles and Commanders will also play each other in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football.
Eagles and Commanders will open the season against each other in 2026
This rivalry has improved over the last two years since the Commanders drafted quarterback Jayden Daniels. The Eagles beat Washington two out of three times in 2024, including the impressive blowout win in the NFC Championship game.
Despite missing the postseason last year due to multiple injuries, the Commanders improved in the offseason with a revamped coaching staff and a roster that looks poised to return to the playoffs. The Eagles have won the NFC East two years in a row, but it is clear that Washington will pose a problem for them in 2026.
This is also the second straight season the Eagles open the year against an NFC East opponent. Last year, they were in the first game of the NFL season against the Dallas Cowboys, where they won by one possession.
