The Philadelphia Eagles have focused on adding depth to the offense in the second week of free agency, making an interesting move.

Running back Dameon Pierce signed a one-year deal with the Eagles as he takes over the spot that A.J. Dillon had last year. Pierce will have some tough competition with Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley being on the roster as well.

After signing his contract, Pierce talked to the Philly media for the first time, talking about the opportunity to learn from Saquon Barkley. More importantly, though, Pierce is looking to get better as a player, and the Eagles give him that chance.

"I'm still learning. I got four years of experience on my side," Pierce said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "Coming to Philly is another step in my journey that I'm looking forward to. At the end of the day, I just want to play ball. Philly gave me a great opportunity to do so."

Dameon Pierce is looking for his chance in the Eagles' offense

Pierce nearly had 1,000 yards in his rookie season with the Houston Texans, but kind of disappeared in the running game over the last few years. That led him to move on from Houston in the middle of last year, ending the year with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now he has a chance for a fresh start in a brand new offense led by new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Pierce won't beat out Barkley and might even have a hard time beating out Bigsby after his stellar 2025 campaign.

It'll all come down to what Pierce can do on special teams, which isn't a big deal for him, as he is willing to return kicks. He will have to do that better than Shipley if he wants a chance to make the roster and be active on gameday.

Mannion will have some things up his offense, but Pierce will have to make it easy on his coach to include him in those plans. The running back room will be an interesting position battle in training camp. Pierce will be ready to find that same guy who dominated his rookie season.
