Remember when the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to trade their star wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason because he's unhappy? Yeah, well it's not happening.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that while the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots were in serious talks with the Eagles, Philly has decided to hold off on a trade at this time. Here is what Russini said about it.
"After serious conversations with both the Rams and Patriots, the Eagles will not trade A.J. Brown at this time, according to multiple league sources. Both teams remain interested, but no move is imminent. If a trade were to happen, it would likely heat up closer to June 1."
Eagles holding off on trading A.J. Brown for the moment
Trading Brown at this moment would have been crazy for the Eagles to do anyways. They would have taken a $20 million hit against the cap for trading him before June 1. If they wait until June 1, they can save about $7 million for their salary cap.
Brown is a talented wide receiver who has been successful in his four years with the Eagles. He made the Pro Bowl twice with Philly and three overall in his career. He has gone over 1,000 yards in each of his four years with the Eagles.
At this point, the Eagles are better off waiting until after the draft and regrouping. They can use this time to figure out how to get a new contract with tight end Dallas Goedert and to look for Brown's replacement in the NFL Draft. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman can also work on deciding whether to drop the price of his trade.
