It's the storyline that literally won't die: Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown could still be traded.

There was a lot of attention one week ago to the idea that the New England Patriots could be interested in trading for Brown, alongside the Los Angeles Chargers. Once the new league year began, though, the talks became silent with no one talking about it. Well, The Athletic's Dianna Russini made sure to check in with Eagles fans on what's going on, and there's still a team monitoring the situation.

"A.J. Brown trade discussions are not dead. Last week, I was told the Rams discussed trading for Eagles WR A.J. Brown before dealing for CB Trent McDuffie. Dialogue slowed, but Los Angeles continues to monitor the status of the three-time Pro Bowler with interest. We’ll see where both parties go from here."

Rams still involved in A.J. Brown trade talks with Eagles

At this point, it would be a massive surprise if a trade happens before the NFL Draft, unless for some wild reason a random injury pops up out of nowhere. Otherwise, June 1 is the next date fans need to watch out for.

Before June 1, the Eagles would have to take a $20 million cap hit by trading Brown away. If they do it after that date, then they can save $7 million against the cap with a Brown trade.

No matter how many teams get involved in trade talks, the Patriots still feel like the likely winner of the Brown sweepstakes. There are too many things that make a trade to them make sense, with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel there and his past with Brown as head coach of the Tennessee Titans for three years. Plus, Stefon Diggs is gone and was replaced with Romeo Doubs, so a number one receiver is still needed.

The Rams would be an interesting team, but they are in the NFC and seem to play the Eagles once a year now, so Philly would rather ship Brown off to the AFC. Fans better be ready to play the waiting game as the three-time Pro Bowler will be chilling in Philadelphia for a bit.
