The Philadelphia Eagles made an interesting move that fans did not expect: they added another cornerback to the roster.
Former Washington Commanders cornerback Jonathan Jones agreed to a one-year deal with the Eagles that will put him in consideration for the CB2 job or at least depth on the roster. Riggo Rag's site expert, Dean Jones, spoke with Inside the Iggles about the Jones signing, but warned about some things Eagles fans need to think about.
"Jonathan Jones was another Commanders signing that affirmed their win-now mindset. The aging cornerback was expected to bring Super Bowl-winning experience and dependability to the secondary, but the move didn't go according to plan. Injury problems dented whatever slim hope there was of making an impact. Jones flashed moments of promise, but it was also clear that his best days were behind him. He could be a solid complementary piece. However, anyone expecting miracles at this late stage of his career may be out of luck."
Commanders expert warns about Jonathan Jones signing
Last year in his only season with the Commanders, Jonathan Jones racked up 41 tackles, five pass deflections, one tackle for loss, and one quarterback hit in 12 games. Injuries affected his play and availability for the Commanders, leading to him not returning to Washington for 2026.
The Eagles also signed Riq Woolen as their first external free-agent signing, and he is seen as more of a starting cornerback than Jones. Jones could make for a good depth player at cornerback, but that CB room is already crowded with guys like Kelee Ringo, Jakorian Bennett, and Mac McWilliams.
It is not going to be easy for Jones to make the team, but there is a chance he will be brought in to compete with Woolen for the starting CB2 job. That part is unknown, but based on the $15 million investment in Woolen, he probably gets the nod.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is known for taking risks in free agency, and Jones is a solid one, but from what Dean Jones said about Jonathan, it might be a bumpy season with him.
