The longstanding impact of tackle Lane Johnson on the Philadelphia Eagles franchise cannot be overstated. Now entering his 14th season, the five-time All-Pro and two-time Super Bowl champion is poised to come back strong following a frustrating campaign cut short by injury.

And eventually, the Groveton, Texas native and lifetime Eagles icon should be Canton-bound.

Bradley Locker with Pro Football Focus broke down an elite group of active players in two pairings, listing those he feels are locks for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and a second group for whom strong cases can be made for the most esteemed individual honor on the gridiron.

"A lifetime Eagle, Johnson may be more than just a legend in Philadelphia. The five-time All-Pro has been a staple along the team’s offensive line, garnering no worse than a 71.7 overall PFF grade in every season of his decorated career. Unsurprisingly, Johnson is also third in WAR (2.25) among tackles since 2018.

Johnson doesn’t quite boast the resume that (Trent) Williams does, being named a first-team All-Pro just twice. That might reduce his candidacy a bit, but the two-time Super Bowl champ is inarguably one of the better and more reliable tackles of the last 15 years."

Lane Johnson is close to being a Hall of Famer

In this particular case, amid the illustrious accomplishments of Johnson, I'd venture to say he's a virtual lock to be fitted with a Gold Jacket down the road. And I think there's more premium performance left in the tank. too.

One glance at his recent output is worthy of a double take. The pillar of the Eagles' line has surrendered a minuscule pressure rate of 2.7% over the past two seasons, the lowest in the entire league. Currently crushing workouts, he's a man on a mission. His much-anticipated return will spearhead an Eagles trench unit headstrong on returning to dominant form, and no one wants to get back to business more than Johnson.

And down the road, he should be getting fitted with his very own gold jacket in Canton.
