What do the Philadelphia Eagles make about the 2025 season with Jalen Hurts at the helm?

As the Eagles front office and fans begin their post-mortem of a disappointing 2025 campaign, many have been wondering about how to maximize the talent of their franchise quarterback.

One of the criticisms Hurts has faced is consistently bailing out of the pocket under the slightest pressure. Former CBS Sports writer Jeff Kerr broke down Hurts 2024 and 2025 passing statistics from inside and outside the pocket.

Examining Jalen Hurts' numbers from inside and outside the pocket

Jalen Hurts -- in pocket

  • 2024 -- 74.0%, 2,503 yards, 14 TD, 4 INT, 8.7 YPA, 110. 3 rating
  • 2025 -- 68.1%, 2,686 yards, 20 TD, 4 INT, 7.5 YPA. 104.2 rating

Hurts saw a 6.1 decrease in his passer rating, 5.9% decrease in completion percentage, however, an increase in touchdowns (14 to 20), and a decrease in yards per attempt. While the numbers seem to look a bit better, it is worth noting that Hurts threw 90 fewer passes in 2024 (361) than in 2025 (454).

Jalen Hurts -- outside pocket

  • 2024 -- 47.2%, 400 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT, 5.6 YPA, 77.3 rating
  • 2025 -- 52.6%, 538 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT, 5.5 YPA, 77.6 rating

While Hurts appeared to be more accurate outside the pocket by about 5%, his overall effectiveness remained the same. He remained at a +3 TD: INT ratio, with his yards per attempt and passer rating remaining within .1 to .3 points apart. While people have criticized Hurts for "bailing" out of the pocket too early, it does appear that his "bailouts" aren't effectively hurting the team over the entire sample size of the season.

With the Eagles' offseason in full swing, and fresh off a Kevin Patullo firing, fans and media alike will rip apart statistics and analytics to strengthen their argument on why Hurts is or isn't the team's franchise QB. Regardless, the Eagles believe Hurts is part of the solution rather than the problem and will continue to build their team around him.
