The 2026 season is going to be a long one for the Philadelphia Eagles and the rest of the NFL, but there is one aspect late in the year that could make things interesting.

In December, the Eagles have a ton of tough opponents, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Houston Texans. One intriguing matchup happens in Week 14 against the Indianapolis Colts, as Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni faces off against his former offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen, for the first time since the Colts hired Steichen as head coach.

It has been an interesting run for Steichen over the last three years as he enters a pivotal fourth season as the Colts' head coach. That's because he is on the hot seat in 2026 with a chance to lose his job, and Sirianni might be the man to get it done.

Entering his fourth season, Steichen has been average at best. He has gone 25-26 as the head coach, but has never taken the Colts to the playoffs.

Prior to joining the Colts, Steichen served as the offensive coordinator for two years with the Eagles, where he was instrumental in developing quarterback Jalen Hurts. In 2022, Steichen coached the number-one offense in the NFL, first in yards and third in points.

To his credit, the Colts have had a top-15 offense in all three years as head coach, and their defense has been at least in the top-18. Last year was a wash as multiple injuries late in the season derailed what looked like a great season after starting 8-2.

Steichen is feeling the pressure with the core group back for the Colts, and the Eagles have a shot to end his tenure as head coach with a win. Sirianni would prefer not to be the man to do it, but he's on the hot seat himself, so it could be either him or Steichen losing their jobs.
