Communication. That's the word of the week for the Philadelphia Eagles, and there's been plenty of that throughout the short week.
After the Denver Broncos stunned the Eagles in Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, several players made comments about the lack of communication. DeVonta Smith pointed out that players on the Eagles need to get on the same page. While A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts missed on the "dagger" pass in the second half, neither guy talked to the other about it.
This inspired a meeting between Hurts, Brown, and Saquon Barkley for a couple of hours to figure out what happened. Eagles fans see this as a potential turning point of the season to get their issues figured.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni loves that they are all collaborating to improve and get better.
“Love the fact that we all get together and are looking for solutions to continue to get better," Sirianni said on Wednesday via NBC Philadelphia's Dave Zangaro. "That’s just not a coaching thing, that’s just not a leaders on the football team, that’s this team. That’s the mindset of this team is how do we keep getting better? Playing our best football by the end of the year. So you love that. You love that for all the guys."
"This isn’t all that different than last year, going through these things as well. You buckle down, you find solutions, you find answers to the problems, and you work yourself to get better from that. That’s what it’s about. That’s how you grow. That’s a mental toughness thing. Obviously, we’re all going through that and trying to get better. Great, we get to play a game tomorrow. You don’t have to sit with this loss that we had Sunday for too long. We get to go out and play a game tomorrow. We’re really excited about that.”
Eagles are on the right track of cleaning up their issues
Philly's offense is in the bottom five in total offense and passing, so something has to change. Most people have chalked it up to the fact that Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has struggled with play-calling.
Specifically on Sunday, it was an issue of having 44 passing plays and 11 runs. This is something that has to be avoided, as the Eagles' identity in the past has been to run the ball more than pass. Moving away from it for one game cost them a win against the Broncos.
Credit to Sirianni for building the type of culture that will get players and coaches to collaborate on what can be done to fix things. Hopefully, this shuts down any absurd narrative that the Eagles lack the drive to win a Super Bowl, as they did last year.

All of this is talk, though, and Thursday against the New York Giants will certainly provide some context on where the Eagles are at with this new line of communication.
