There is always criticism that comes Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts' way, and while some are fair, most are not.
Hurts just completed his sixth NFL season, having led the Eagles to the playoffs five years in a row under head coach Nick Sirianni. This season ended similarly to the 2023 campaign as the team looked disappointing down the stretch and lost in the NFC Wild Card round.
Sirianni was asked about his quarterback by reporters during the Eagles' end-of-year press conference alongside general manager Howie Roseman. Philly's head coach did what he usually does with the media, praising his quarterback for how he handled a tough season.
“You saw this year that he’s open to doing a bunch. We were under center more than we have been," Sirianni said. "Different motions, different things. Jalen (Hurts) will do whatever it takes to win football games. Sometimes that’s throwing it a bunch, sometimes it’s running it a bunch, sometimes it’s handing it off a bunch. All I’ve ever known from Jalen is the man will do whatever he has to do to win football games. He pushes himself to excel at the things he’s done so well, and he’s proven to everybody year in year out that all he cares about is winning and holding that trophy up.”
Jalen Hurts went through it all during the 2025 season
There was a lot that happened on the Eagles in 2025 that made it one of the most challenging seasons in recent memory. Hurts had some drama around him that he didn't ask for, from the reports of him asking for fewer QB-designed run plays to backdoor reports of teammates being frustrated with Hurts.
The Eagles' star quarterback had plenty of other drama to deal with, as well, with wide receiver A.J. Brown after his cryptic tweets and bad-mouthing the organization on streams. That certainly didn't make life easy on Hurts when he had to answer those types of questions every week.
Through all that noise, Hurts still put together a pretty good year as the starter. He finished with a completion percentage of 64.8% for 3,224 yards and a career-high 25 touchdowns to just six interceptions. Hurts added another 421 yards on the ground and eight more scores.

Ultimately, though, the season ended with a playoff loss, making it a failure in the eyes of a franchise used to winning. Hurts knows that better than anyone, and despite the fact that he's about to have his sixth different play caller in seven years, he'll be ready for anything.
