Yeah, not great.

The Philadelphia Eagles are entering a new era for the offense, one they are too familiar with, as they work to find a new offensive coordinator for the fourth straight year.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made the decision to remove Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator after just one season in the role. While Sirianni did release a statement after the move was announced, he spoke out for the first time since it happened, alongside Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, at their end-of-year press conference, when the head coach was asked about what went into the decision.

"I think it's important we continue to evolve as an offense," Sirianni said via The Athletic's Zach Berman. "At this particular point, I love Kevin (Patullo) and everything he provided for the coaching staff and his five years here, a big reason why we've won a lot of football games. But at this particular moment, I felt like that's what we needed to do."

It was clear early in the season that things were getting bad on offense, and after the bye week, it only got worse, reaching a point of no return. The Eagles ended the season with some ugly stats to go with the performance.

  • 24th in total offense (311.2 yards per game)
  • 23rd in passing (194.3 yards per game)
  • 18th in rushing (116.9 yards per game)
  • 19th in scoring (22.3 points per game)

The straw that broke the camel's back was the 23-19 NFC Wild Card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, where the Eagles' offense did what they were best at: folding in the second half. After 188 yards and 13 points in the first half, they finished the second half with under 120 yards and just six points.

Philly's offense failed on every level, from player performance to play calling to everything in between. There was never any real creativity with the calls unless it was in the Tush Push formation. Otherwise, it was hitches, out routes, slants, and go routes in the passing game, and Saquon Barkley runs up the middle on first and second down in the second half.

Every. Single. Game.

The search for a new offensive coordinator will be the most important one for the Eagles during Nick Sirianni's tenure, and it must knock it out of the park to get this team back into Super Bowl contention.
