Any football fan who tuned into USC Trojans action last fall saw just how gifted Philadelphia Eagles rookie wideout Makai Lemon is.
And after general manager Howie Roseman didn't waver in aggressively moving up to secure his services this past draft, it's clear the organization feels the sky is the limit for the dynamic pass catcher.
Surveying the many projections surrounding his upcoming rookie season production has proven to be a wide-ranging task, as some feel he may take time to get acclimated. In contrast, others see the absence of A.J. Brown and forecast a massive debut right off the bat.
While offering up his biggest NFC East predictions, Ethen Hutton with Sports Illustrated envisions a monster rookie campaign in store for the Los Alamitos, California native: Lemon leading the Eagles in receiving yards.
"The Philadelphia Eagles endured significant change among their offense during the offseason, moving on from All-Pro wideout A.J. Brown, while ultimately pairing DeVonta Smith with the reigning Biletnikoff Award winner in college football, Makai Lemon. Though Smith will take over Brown’s target share as the offense’s WR1 coming into the season, he’ll face more attention than he has at any other point of his career.
Lemon will almost certainly command 100-plus targets as one of Jalen Hurts’ top targets in a passing game that projects to bounce back under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. If Lemon can average around 13.0 yards per catch with such volume, he could lead his new team in receiving in year one."
Massive production would be nothing new for Eagles rookie
It's a bold take for sure, but health permitting, it could be a viable scenario. As evidenced by his award-winning final campaign in California, Lemon can make opponents pay with alarming consistency.
With a staggering 79 catches for 1,156 yards (14.6 ypc) and 11 touchdowns, Lemon exploded over the course of 12 games in 2025. Averaging 96.3 yards per game last season, the consistency shown in sustaining peak production all season long lends credence to this prediction.
Of course, DeVonta Smith is poised to slide into that top wideout role sans Brown, and many have rightfully anointed him as the top wideout in Philadelphia moving forward. But a fellow Biletnikoff Award winner in Lemon is now in town, one who can soak up targets and explode at the drop of a dime in a variety of ways.
Smith is no doubt the favorite to lead the team in receiving yards, but Lemon has shown he can absolutely thrive as an alpha wideout while at USC.
