One shocking Eagles stat should have fans believing in Kevin Patullo

Philly’s offense has been elite where it matters most.

The unrest among Philadelphia Eagles fans with new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo is understandable.

Philly’s vaunted rushing attack with superstar running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts has taken a step back, dropping from 5.0 yards per rush attempt in 2024, to 3.7 yards per rush through three games of 2025; the Eagles currently rank 24th in the NFL in that category, per Team Rankings.

The passing game got rolling in the second half of Sunday’s comeback win over the Los Angeles Rams, but Patullo — Philly’s passing game coordinator throughout head coach Nick Sirianni’s tenure — hasn’t moved the needle in that department, either. The Eagles remain near the bottom of the NFL in pass attempts (25.7) and completions per game (18.3); they’re 32nd in the league in gross passing yards per game at 159.7.

Clearly, the Eagles are still ironing things out with Patullo, who’s their third new OC in as many years. After Philly’s brutal first-half showing against the Rams on Sunday — they managed just 33 net yards and seven points — fans wondered if Hurts called the plays himself as he rallied the team back from a 19-point deficit in the third quarter.

Sirianni shot that notion down this week, confirming that Patullo was the play caller throughout Sunday’s epic win at The Linc. The Eagles improved to 3-0 and remain in the midst of the greatest 20-game stretch in franchise history; their offense hasn’t yet strung together four quarters of good football, but they also couldn’t be in a better spot entering another showdown at Tampa Bay (3-0) this week.

Patullo probably deserves more credit than he’s gotten so far. Despite the inconsistencies, the Eagles are possessing and moving the football well, and when they get into the money area of the field — the red zone — they’ve been lights out.

The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 4 with 100 percent TD efficiency in the red zone

Through three games, the Eagles have reached the red zone (or inside the opponent’s 20-yard line) eight times. They’ve scored a touchdown on all eight trips, leaving them as the NFL’s lone team with 100 percent efficiency in that area.

To Patullo’s credit, only two of those eight scores have come via the tush-push. The Eagles have run 33 red zone plays with a run-pass ratio of 23 to 10. Two of the scores came on Hurts scrambles. Two others came through the air. Two more came on Barkley rushes of 10-plus yards.

While the Eagles’ overall net yardage numbers leave some meat on the bone, their efficiency has remained among the best in football. They’re top 10 in third- and fourth-down conversion rate, and have been unstoppable in the red area with a nice mix of rush and pass plays.

Water always finds its level, and so will Philadelphia’s offense. Patullo has been working with Hurts since he took over as the starting quarterback in 2021. Philly’s talent on that side of the ball remains elite.

Based on the numbers alone, it’s way too early to sound the alarm on Patullo.
