There are a lot of trade rumors that are starting to heat up with the Philadelphia Eagles and the potential of landing five-time Pro Bowler Maxx Crosby.
Sports Illustrated's Hondo Carpenter suggested that the Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers are the two teams that are in the thick of interest for Crosby's services, as the Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly open to trading him. There are many who believe the Eagles could include two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter as part of a potential trade.
Former Eagles linebacker and Sports Radio 94 WIP host Ike Reese chimed in on his opinion on the trade, as he has a different opinion. While Reese still wants to trade for Crosby, he would like to include Nolan Smith in the deal instead of Carter.
"I wanna see Maxx Crosby play with Jalen Carter alongside Jordan Davis, and Jonathan Greenard. Now that's a four right there. Then I still got Jalyx Hunt as a backup. I'd give them the pick they just got for A.J., which is the first round pick in 2028 and Nolan Smith."
Why this is the only trade proposal that makes sense for Eagles
Smith is worth putting up as trade bait for a simple reason. He has been average at best after posting 6.5 sacks in 2024, but dipped in production with only three sacks in 2025, as a triceps injury was part of the reason. Plus, with his recent arrest, the Eagles could be questioning whether he is worth investing in the future despite picking up his fifth-year option on his rookie deal this offseason.
Hunt shows more potential to develop, so keeping him makes more sense. His versatility in pass coverage and rushing the quarterback is too good for the Eagles to pass up after leading the team in sacks (6.5) and interceptions (three) a year ago.
The real question comes as to whether a 2028 first-round pick and Smith are enough to make a deal happen. Las Vegas would get a young pass rusher with potential, which is good, and a first-round pick, which is what they would need at a minimum. If the Eagles are smart, that's the only trade proposal they should consider.
Otherwise, no other deal makes sense. Philly should not include Carter, as he is a once-in-a-generation talent even if there are concerns about his maturity during contract extension talks. They need to avoid putting him in the deal at all costs.
Moving Carter away would defeat the purpose of making a trade, as the point is to add one Pro Bowler to join two others on the line. Losing him would only make the Eagles worse as a team.
If the Eagles have to give up a 2027 first-round pick instead, that wouldn't make sense for them either, as they need that pick to help build the offense for the future. There's less risk with trading one of their 2028 first-round pick since they can lean on the other one in the draft.
They already have Greenard, so they don't need to go crazy on a trade for Crosby. Philly already has a Pro Bowl edge rusher who can sack the quarterback, as he proved it with 12 or more sacks in 2023 and 2024. Crosby might be more consistent, but with the investment already made on Greenard, it makes more sense that if they have to give up more than a 2028 first-rounder and Smith, the Eagles are better to just walk away from the deal.

With the next month about to be slow, these trade rumors are not able to die out very quickly. Eagles fans will not hear the end of it until something is said publicly. Let's just hope it doesn't result in the team giving up too much for Crosby if they do it.
