Wow. Things have certainly escalated quickly with the Green Bay Packers when it comes to defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, a man not very popular among Philadelphia Eagles fans.
Thursday night was a perfect example of what can go completely wrong when a team employs Gannon, as the Packers were embarrassed by the Atlanta Falcons 35-14. It was the first time in over a decade the Packers lost a home opener in Green Bay.
Their defense was poor, allowing 498 yards, and 242 of it came on the ground. Green Bay's defense got torched the whole game, and now there are some big questions around Gannon's performance as DC so far. Eagles fans understand that feeling.

Lombardi Ave Packers expert Freddie Boston named Gannon as one of the losers from the game. Boston made his feelings very clear about Gannon's performance.
"Jonathan Gannon's defense kept the Packers in the game against the New York Jets last week, but they were humiliated by the Falcons. It was like Joe Barry never left.
It didn't matter if you knew it was coming – the Falcons piled up 242 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 41 carries. The Packers had no answer. They also got burned badly through the air by Drake London, who caught nine passes for 194 yards.
Has Atlanta found the blueprint? Michael Penix Jr. got the ball out quickly, which blunted the Packers' pass rush, and they leaned heavily on the ground game. Green Bay had shut down the run in Weeks 1 and 2, but this game got out of hand fast."
Green Bay's defense is currently ranked 22nd in yards allowed at 340.7 per game. They are 27th against the run, allowing 138.7 yards per game on the ground. Add in a 26th ranking in points allowed per game with 30.3 and fans have a defense that is pretty bad.
Eagles fans could have warned Packers fans that this was going to happen. The Arizona Cardinals never had an elite defense in all the years he was the head coach for them and never made the playoffs with them as well.
When Gannon was with the Eagles, he did have an elite defense in 2022, helping the team go to the Super Bowl. Once he got the Cardinals head coach job before the Super Bowl, though, he stopped caring and allowed 38 points in the loss.
