The Philadelphia Eagles know they have a tough situation at wide receiver with A.J. Brown being close to the end in the next couple of months and them losing Jahan Dotson in free agency to the Atlanta Falcons.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman reportedly tried at getting a receiver in free agency, but failed. ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler shared that the Eagles were in the running for wide receiver Darnell Mooney before he signed with the New York Giants. Mooney decided to join the Giants' new offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, over the Eagles.
Mooney had just 32 receptions for 443 yards and one touchdown with the Atlanta Falcons last season before the team cut him. He had racked up 992 yards and five touchdowns in 2024.
Eagles lose out on Darnell Mooney
There are still options out there for the Eagles, but Mooney would have been the perfect slot receiver. That was a role that Dotson played over the last two years, but disappeared in the offense in both of those seasons.
Everyone assumes at this point the Eagles will use the NFL Draft to find Brown's replacement next month. Philly still needs to figure out what to do about the rest of the receiver position.
They currently have Darius Cooper and Johnny Wilson as potential number four and five options in the passing game. Wilson is coming off an injury that cost him the whole season, and Cooper just ended his rookie season, but neither guy is really considered a slot receiver, even though Cooper played some there last year.

Roseman has lost out on a lot of free agent targets this offseason and has a lot of work to do to get this wide receiver position in a good spot in 2026.
