Eagles' biggest need to target in 2026 NFL Draft is painfully obvious

As the 2025 NFL season comes to an end, 30 of the 32 remaining franchises are in full "offseason" mode, building their teams for 2026. With the Eagles now several weeks removed from their early playoff exit to the San Francisco 49ers, general manager Howie Roseman and his team have begun attacking their draft board and free-agency list in hopes of rebounding from an underachieving 2025.

With free agency and the draft rapidly approaching, Pro Football Focus's Ryan Smith went through each NFL team's biggest need and how each team can address it via a free agent signing or draft pick. PFF believes the Eagles' biggest need this offseason is tight end, and the team will draft Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq.

"Dallas Goedert is a free agent, which could cause the Eagles to turn to the draft for their tight end of the future. Sadiq is one of the most athletic tight ends to come out in recent memory. He projects to be a matchup nightmare at the next level with his skill set and versatility. Sadiq led all FBS tight ends with eight receiving touchdowns in 2025 and ranked in the top 10 in deep receptions of 20-plus yards (nine) and contested catches (seven)."

Eagles urged to target tight end in 2026 NFL Draft

Sadiq has been linked to the Eagles through multiple platforms and write-ups since mid-season. With Dallas Goedert being a free agent, in addition to Grant Calcaterra, the Eagles will need to find a way to supplement their tight end room, whether they choose to keep either one of their top two tight ends.

Goedert is coming off a record-breaking year for an Eagles tight end, which ended with a two-touchdown performance in their playoff matchup against the 49ers. However, Goedert is now in his age-31 season and will most likely demand a high-value contract from an NFL team. Calcaterra, who has been mostly used as a run blocker, failed to succeed in that role, while only recording 9 receptions for 76 yards this season.

With Sadiq being one of the most athletic tight ends in this class (or recent classes for that matter), the Eagles are in a premier position to "reload" rather than rebuild in their tight end room. Sadiq's athletic ability could make him a matchup nightmare, which is why many NFL teams have sought him since the emergence of Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

With Sadiq coming off a season where he led all FBS tight ends in touchdowns, the Eagles should be able to draft another high-value impact tight end, continuing the pipeline of high-level tight end play since 2000.
