So many times at training camp, players can get lost in the shuffle with all the talent there. The Philadelphia Eagles have that problem at several positions.
One of those positions that is crowded right now is at defensive tackle. All the attention is on Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo, but the group has a lot of other top talent there.
Ty Robinson is emerging as a good player, as he is getting thrown into the starting lineup as part of the rotation. Byron Young would like to remind everyone how good he is at playing football, too.
Eagles are still getting steady production from Byron Young at training camp
NBC Sports Philadelphia Eagles reporter Dave Zangaro shared his observations from training camp at the latest practice. Young got some recognition for a play he made and his status on the team.
"Byron Young got a sack in a team drill on Tuesday. Young is still buried on the depth chart a bit because he’s behind Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and Moro Ojomo. But Young has been a steady member of the rotation and should be on the team again in 2026."
Young was often forgotten about after joining the team before the 2024 season. While he did not play that year, the 2025 campaign showed the true potential he can bring to the team.
When Jalen Carter got hurt and missed multiple games, Young stepped up in the rotation to help at defensive tackle. Young played in 17 games last year, racking up 37 tackles, four quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.
While Young may not be at the level of Carter, Davis, or Ojomo, he is clearly the fourth-best defensive tackle on the team. Robinson is progressing nicely, but Young is the more consistent performer.
Rookie seventh-round pick Uar Bernard has a chance to be a beast in the NFL, but as a rookie, he needs time to develop. In the meantime, Young makes for a great backup rotational guy while Robinson and Bernard work their way up.
When watching the tape on Young, he's similar to what Ojomo and Carter can do so well on the line. Young can rush the passer better than most defensive tackles, while using his strength to shed blockers and help in run support.

It's a shame that Young gets forgotten about so much because he really shouldn't be. He might arguably be one of the most underrated players on the Eagles and someone who is going to make an impact on the defensive line in 2026.
