The anticipation is killing Philadelphia Eagles fans, but they are less than three months away from seeing what this new-look offense will look like under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion.
During the offseason, when Mannion was hired, there was a ton of hype around him from other NFL coaches and players who believed he had a bright future. Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata called him an "evil genius," while many think he will be a head coach within the next five years if he can do well in Philly.
There is also uncertainty around Mannion since he has never been a play-caller before. Even with all that, Eagles fans know the potential is there for the young coach to knock it out of the park in his first season with the franchise.
Sean Mannion has all the tools to be successful in 2026
This Eagles offense will be very different from the heavy-run style it has been in the past. With the Sean McVay-Kyle Shanahan scheme being used, Mannion is about to open up the offense in ways the fan base in Philly has never seen.
For one, they will finally see more motions used with the receivers, tight ends, and running backs pre-snap. It will allow for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to not only attack the middle of the field more often in the passing game but also feature more RPO runs, which were less prevalent in 2025.
A big thing as well is the use of 12 personnel that will be on display in 2026. That means two tight ends will be on the field at the same time more often, which opens the door for a lot of Dallas Goedert and Eli Stowers in the passing game. It will also mean guys like Johnny Mundt taking the field to help run block.
OTAs also showed Eagles fans that the running backs will be more involved in the passing game. There were multiple reports that Saquon Barkley was running routes and catching the ball from Jalen Hurts often in those three weeks of minicamp.
Mannion was the change this offense needed more than anything after what happened with Kevin Patullo in his first and only year as the offensive coordinator. The Eagles finished in the bottom 15 in all major offensive statistical categories, including passing, rushing, total offense, and scoring.

There's more pressure on Mannion than there ever has been on an Eagles assistant coach, as he's got not only his own job but head coach Nick Sirianni's job in his hands. Another failed gamble by Sirianni, and there will be many more people out of a job going into the 2027 offseason.
Even with those concerns, the potential Mannion can bring to this franchise is through the roof. If he can get the Eagles to play like the Los Angeles Rams or San Francisco 49ers' offenses, this Philly team is bound for a Super Bowl run.
