Eagles fans aren't ready for history to potentially repeat for offense

It has to work this season.

Philadelphia Eagles fans are trying to forget about what happened on offense last year with Kevin Patullo as the offensive coordinator.

Patullo's only season featured the offense ranking in the bottom 15 in total yards, passing, rushing, and scoring, resulting in the first-year play caller being fired at the beginning of the offseason. Taking over the reins is Sean Mannion, another new play-caller, who pushed Bleacher Report writer Kristopher Knox to say the worst-case scenario for the Eagles' offense in 2026 is Mannion not being ready to be an offensive coordinator.

"If the Eagles hope to get back into the Super Bowl conversation, they'll need to get more out of Jalen Hurts and the passing game, plain and simple. Even with a new-look receiver room, that's unlikely to happen if Mannion can't tailor the offense to his team's strengths. Unfortunately, Mannion doesn't have a proven track record as a play designer or play caller. In fact, he doesn't have much experience as a coach at all.

Mannion, who was on Seattle's practice squad in 2023, spent just two seasons as a Packers coach before taking the Philly job. He was an assistant in 2024 and the quarterbacks coach in 2025. Now, he's in charge of an offense in desperate need of direction. If it turns out that Mannion is in over his head, the offense won't be any better than it was in 2025."

Is Sean Mannion ready to be an offensive coordinator for the first time?

All indications from other coaches and players outside of Philly during the offseason were that Mannion was a genius and more than up to the task of calling plays. He's spent the last two years learning from Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur as an offensive assistant and last season as quarterbacks coach.

While OTAs have not been the best for the Eagles' offense, the early buzz from the players is that they are excited to have Mannion and his new scheme in Philly. There have been many positive reviews of Mannion and his conduct as the new offensive coordinator.

Mannion has a lot of work to do as he will have to help in Jalen Hurts' development and get him to the next level. He also has to work with an offense that doesn't have A.J. Brown there as WR1 for the first time in over four years. To top it off, he has a banged-up offensive line that he is hoping will stay healthy, or else they have to lean on a bunch of rookie and second-year guys with little to no experience.

Even with the concerns, all the pieces are there for Mannion to have a top-five offense in the NFL if he uses his pieces right. It's all a matter of whether he is ready for the pressure that comes with running the Eagles' offense.
