Not many people expected the Philadelphia Eagles to bring back linebacker Nakobe Dean, and it turns out that he did not return.
The speculation was that he had a chance to sign with the Dallas Cowboys since they have a big need at linebacker. It also helps out that former Eagles defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Christian Parker is in Dallas as the Cowboys' defensive coordinator.
Dean's agent, Mike McCartney, announced on X that his client will be signing a three-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 10 games last season, Dean racked up 55 tackles, seven tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, four sacks, two forced fumbles, and one pass deflection.
Nakobe Dean avoids Dallas and joins the Raiders
This was honestly the best cases scenario for the Eagles as they won't have to face Dean twice a year with the Cowboys. Instead, they'll face him every few years.
It's a telling move for the Raiders as they have been known for targeting former Eagles players, coaches, and front office personnel. Raiders general manager John Spytek used to work with the Eagles under Howie Roseman and spent time with him in Philly.
While Dean is a nice player and made some big plays on defense last year, it was bound to happen that the two sides separated. Dean was well known for his ability to be used on blitzes sent by Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to pressure the quarterback.
The biggest issue with Dean is the injury concerns he has had throughout the last four years. He has 21 games in the last three years, mostly due to injuries or resting in the final week of the season.

Dean's signing tops off a very quiet first day for the Eagles, who have lost a few players like Jaelan Phillips and Jahan Dotson but did not add any to the roster.
