Within the first two days at New England Patriots training camp, Philadelphia Eagles fans are feeling pretty good about the trade involving wide receiver A.J. Brown.
The Eagles traded Brown to the Patriots in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick. Things did not start well for Brown on his first day of training camp with the Patriots after only getting one target and no receptions.
A new clip shows that Day 2 is not going as well either, as ThePatsCorner.com shared a clip of Brown going up against Patriots Pro Bowl cornerback Christian Gonzalez. The video showed that Brown was not able to get any separation from Gonzalez, as Brown tried to bring the ball in one-handed, but it fell incomplete.

That was the biggest complaint about Brown last season, as he struggled to get separation from cornerbacks throughout the season. It's why he only had 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. The yardage was the lowest since 2021 with the Tennessee Titans.
All year, Brown complained about the Eagles' offense and his role within it. The truth was that while he was mostly justified in his complaints, he did not hold himself accountable as much as Eagles fans wanted him to.
Brown's effort was called into question multiple times throughout the season, as it looked like he was checked out because he wasn't getting the ball. He struggled to get open and create the separation he used to. Instead, he let his emotions get in the way of his play, and his stats and the Eagles' offense suffered for it.
New England might be facing the same situation as the Eagles did last year. Granted, Gonzalez is one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL and was a great shutdown defender last year. Brown is going to have to find a way to beat corners like that, so he'd better figure out how to do it.
At least the Eagles don't have to deal with that anymore, with DeVonta Smith taking over as the WR1. Last season, Smith was great at creating that separation, ending the season with 1,008 yards and as Philly's leading receiver.

The Patriots may not be enjoying the start to Brown's career with them, but Eagles fans are grateful they don't have to deal with that nonsense anymore.
