It may be just one day before the Philadelphia Eagles take the field against the Baltimore Ravens for the preseason opener, but that doesn't mean general manager Howie Roseman isn't putting in the work.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the Eagles have signed linebacker Brandon George. Last year, George went undrafted out of Pittsburgh and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. He did not take a snap with the Chiefs in 2025 after being placed on the IR for an unknown injury.
During the offseason, George was activated. The Chiefs decided to release him back in May.

This will be an interesting move for the Eagles since they don't really have many linebacker injuries right now. The only thing close to it is at edge rusher, with Jonathan Greenard on the PUP with a pectoral injury and rookie Keyshawn James-Newby missing time with an ankle injury.
It will be very difficult for George to make the roster since he missed three weeks of camp and has to adjust quickly to learning the defense. He most likely won't play in the preseason game against the Ravens since he just arrived there.
Philly is deep at the linebacker position, led by Zack Baun and Jihaad Campbell as the projected starters. Backing them up will most likely be Jeremiah Trotter Jr., Smael Mondon Jr., and Chance Campbell.
George is in the next tier of linebackers, which isn't exactly the best place to be. He needs to find his way to competing with Chance Campbell for that final spot on the roster.
George will have to make his biggest contributions on special teams and prove that he can do the dirty work to make the roster. Otherwise, he might be looking in from the outside very quickly. There's also a strong chance he is just a camp body to fill a number until the end of training camp, then be cut.
At this point, George should be gunning for a practice squad spot. That's where he can still be a part of the team and wait for his turn to be called up if injuries occur.

This will certainly add some new drama to training camp, but for George, this is a chance to prove that he can be an NFL linebacker.
