Going into the offseason, many expected the Philadelphia Eagles to move on from wide receiver A.J. Brown in a trade with the New England Patriots being the number one location, but another team nearly got their hands on him.
NFL insider Mike Garafolo appeared on the Rich Eisen Show, where they were discussing the potential trade next month involving Brown, with an interesting tidbit shared by the long-time reporter. Garafolo shared that the Los Angeles Rams nearly reached a trade agreement with the Eagles in the offseason.
"That was really close," Garafolo said via Bleacher Report. "It was closer than it got with the Patriots. That was really close. There was one point where overnight it sort of died. It was like, 'Late one night, this could be going down by the next morning. You know what, there's too many moving parts here.'"
A.J. Brown almost got traded to the Los Angeles Rams in the offseason
The Rams were one of the four teams mentioned earlier in the offseason that were reported to have called the Eagles about a potential trade involving Brown. Other teams included the Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, and Baltimore Ravens.
In all honesty, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman might have dodged a massive bullet by not trading Brown yet. The big talk has been the financial part of this situation, where the Eagles will have their dead cap cut in half, and the team will save $7 million against the cap if they trade Brown by June 1.
Roseman was probably pushing to get a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to help offset the financial burden of moving Brown. Ultimately, the Rams decided against it and selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson to develop as the eventual replacement for Matthew Stafford.

Philly is better off waiting for June 2 to happen, then trading Brown to the Patriots so they can move on from the situation. A trade back then would have drastically hurt this Eagles team in the near future.
