There's a lot of attention in free agency around whether the Philadelphia Eagles will bring back Dallas Goedert to the team or look elsewhere.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has already publicly stated that he is open to Goedert coming back, but didn't outright say the team would go all out to bring him back. It does leave some room for someone else to come into Philly and take over his spot.

Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks was told by league sources that the team is interested in free agent tight end David Njoku. The former Cleveland Browns tight end caught 384 passes for 4,062 yards and 34 touchdowns in 116 career games, making the Pro Bowl in 2023.

Eagles are interested in David Njoku in free agency

The reality is that Goedert is in his 30s, and while he had career-highs in receptions and touchdowns, his production per catch went down. He averaged just 9.8 yards per reception, the lowest of his NFL career.

Njoku brings a fresh perspective to the tight end room and would give the Eagles the veteran talent they need. Currently, the Eagles have only Cameron Latu at tight end on the active roster, but he is a fullback and special teams ace for Philly.

Just because the Eagles are interested in Njoku doesn't mean it will change their plans on what they want to do in the NFL Draft. They were reportedly looking at tight ends at the NFL Combine, so they still could go tight end within the first three rounds of the draft, whether that is Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq or Vanderbilt's Eli Stowers.

Goedert could be looking at a contract of about $6-7 million per year in free agency. Njoku is looking at more than $5.1 million per year, so it could make him a more affordable option.

There is still a week to go before free agency begins, but the Eagles are already putting together their game plan for what they want to do. Njoku appears to be on their wishlist.
